Any student who attends an elementary school in Evanston Wyoming and meets the eligibility guidelines set forth by the State of Wyoming to receive “free” meals while at school, are also able to receive food for the weekends and some school breaks during the school year from the Evanston Hungry Children Backpack Program. Counselors at each school are given a confidential list of students who qualify to participate in the program. A letter explaining the program along with a simple form requesting information such as children in the home and any possibly food allergies is sent home for review and completion. When the school receives the completed form back the child will then be given a “backpack” bag of food to take home on the last day before the weekends and breaks. A form must be filled out for each child in the household wishing to enroll in the program.
